This is it – the last day of our senior citizen units visiting tour around Lapland! This time we went to Ylitornio to organize activities for elderly in Ylitornion palvelukoti and Palvelukoti Lantonvainio. Aaron Celeste from Tornio drove first to Rovaniemi to pick us up (Irina Sergeeva, Milla Sandholm and Nina Niskala). Even though Aaron didn’t know Rovaniemi that well, everything went smoothly and we managed to set out to Ylitornio on time. Since this was indeed the last day of our visits, everyone felt little bit tired, and to break the ice…Read more

Give Back to Lapland, Visits in Ranua 28.4.

Thursday proved to be quite an interesting journey as I was travelling with the member of the project coming from Tornio, Aaron Celeste.  It was Aaron´s first time ever to drive to Rovaniemi so naturally there was a small complication in finding a place for him to stop the car and me to hop in but we were efficient enough to stay on schedule any way. On the way to Ranua I received a phone call from the director of both of the senior citizen units we were going to visit that day,…Read more

Give Back to Lapland, Visits in Simo 27.4.

On Tuesday evening it became obvious that no one of our group members neither acquaintance could drive on Wednesday.  But a promise should be kept so I decided to take a bus to Simo on my own in order to visit the two senior citizen units of the day.  I had luck on my side; the only possible bus rides of the day fitted just fine to schedule and as Simo was a small town, I was able to just take my time and explore the town center too. Palvelukoti Mäntylä Since I…Read more

Give Back to Lapland, Pello 25.4. & Tornio 26.4.

Monday morning started off in a bit different tone as members became a temporary moving firm in addition to planned visits in senior citizen units. We moved small shelves and wooden pieces of a bed to the minibus and unboxed them in our destination in Pello, at Nina´s grandma´s place, proving how multifunctional we can make our processes. Since Nina was familiar with driving to Pello, her drive to there was really smooth and the relaxed atmosphere reminded me of a fun road trip. As usual I hosted the performances in senior…Read more

Give Back to Lapland – Visits in Kemi 20.4. – 22.4.

Week 16 proved to be busy for everyone so that in the end only us, Nina Niskala & Laura Ukkola, were still able to reserve time to visiting the senior citizen units in Kemi from Wednesday to Friday. Despite dealing with a car booking hassle and hard-to-read GPS, we were able to keep our promise to visit all the units that were expecting us and provide to them the performance successfully. Nestorin palvelukoti & Virekoti Purola On Wednesday morning  first up was Nestorin palvelukoti. When we arrived to the assigned place, seniors were…Read more
